Makenna Adkison fired a two-hit shutout to lead the Wildcat softball team in an 8-0 shutout victory over Concordia College of New York Wednesday evening at the National Training Center Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Wildcats move to .500 on the season at 6-6 (5-1 on Florida Spring Break Trip) while the Clippers drop to 0-2.
The Wildcats opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the second inning on four hits and a pair of Concordia errors.
Morgan Vasa had an RBI single while
Emily Chandler,
Abbie Hix and
Taylor Menard added hits.
WSC added three more runs in the third. Hix and
Ashley Hernandez each singled in the inning while the 'Cats used two more Clipper errors to plate the three runs.
Wayne State ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with a pair of runs to finish with the 8-0 win. Menard tripled and scored on a
Annie Grammer single with the final run coming as a result of
Kortney Buresh singling to score Grammer.
The Wildcats finished with 14 hits in the contest while holding Concordia to a pair of singles.
Menard led a balanced hitting attack going 2 for 3 with a triple, single and two runs scored. Hix finished 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and two runs scored. Hernandez went 2 for 3 with a double while Vasa and Buresh each recorded two singles.
Adkison (4-3) earned a complete game win in the circle firing a two-hit shutout, allowing just a pair of singles to the Clippers while striking out six batters without issuing a walk.
Wayne State will conclude play in Florida on Thursday battling Clarion (Pa.) at 9:30 a.m. and Alderson Broaddus of West Virginia at 11:45 a.m.
