'Cats roll over Southwestern Oklahoma State thanks to seven aces from Hope Carter

            Junior Hope Carter recorded seven service aces and a team-high 16 digs to lead the Wayne State College volleyball team in a 25-12, 25-11 and 25-13 non-conference college volleyball sweep over Southwestern Oklahoma State Friday afternoon at the Missouri Southern Tournament in Joplin, Missouri.  WSC is now 2-0 on the year while the Bulldogs slip to 0-2.
            Wayne State never trailed in the match.  Carter established her serving prowess in the opening set, recording three straight service aces to put the 'Cats in front 5-0.  The 'Cats finished with six service aces in the set and used five kills from senior outside hitter Katie Stephens to post a 25-12 set win.
            The second set saw the 'Cats force eight attack errors on SWOSU and had three blocks for an easy 25-11 second set win.  Carter added another three aces in the set to go with six digs while Tarrin Beller produced a team-high five kills.
            WSC completed the sweep in the third with a convincing 25-13 set win.  The 'Cats hit .395 as a team with 17 kills and just two attack errors.  Kelsie Cada had five kills and five digs while Carter added one more service ace in the third set to go with seven digs to cap her stellar outing.
            As a team, Wayne State hit .351 on 41 kills with just eight errors on 94 attacks.  The 'Cats held Southwestern Oklahoma State to 23 kills and 16 errors on 100 attempts for a .070 attack percentage.
            WSC finished with 12 service aces and held a 54-39 advantage in digs over the Bulldogs.  Both teams had three blocks.
            Carter led Wayne State in the match with seven service aces, tied for the second most in a single match by a Wildcat player in school history.  She also notched a team-high 16 digs.
            Beller and Cada each had nine kills to lead a balanced hitting attack for WSC followed by Maddie Knobbe and Stephens with seven kills apiece.  Cada also had 11 digs with senior libero Haley Kauth adding 10 while redshirt freshman setter Rachel Walker handed out 37 set assists.
            Wayne State will face Black Hills State at 9 a.m. and Colorado State – Pueblo in a 3 p.m. match Saturday at the Missouri Southern Tournament in Joplin.
