Southwest Baptist gets revenge on Wildcats with 8-3 win

Southwest Baptist 8 Wayne State 3

After Wayne State beat Southwest Baptist three times in a span of 48 hours two weeks ago, the Bearcats got revenge on the Wildcat softball team Friday afternoon at the Drury Invitational in Springfield, Missouri with an 8-3 win.  WSC falls to 5-6 on the year while Southwest Baptist is now 3-11.
Southwest Baptist opened the scoring with three runs in the first, but WSC got one back in the second on a solo home run from Kamryn Sparks to make the score 3-1 after two innings.
The Bearcats then scored five consecutive runs with one in the fourth, three in the sixth and one in the top of the seventh for an 8-1 lead.
Wayne State scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score 8-3.  Paiton Tornberg and Molli Vasa each singled with both players scoring when Kortney Buresh reached base on a Bearcat error to close out the scoring.
Southwest Baptist had 10 hits in the game to seven for the Wildcats.  Sparks led WSC going 2 for 3 with a homer and double while Clare Reinhart was 2 for 3 with a pair of singles.  Vasa, Tornberg and Emily Hale each singled.
Starting pitcher Sloan Cooksey (1-4) was tagged with the pitching loss in three innings of work.  Junior Maddie Moser worked three innings of relief with sophomore Makenna Adkison pitching the final inning.
Wayne State will play two more games Saturday at the Drury Invitational, battling Northwest Missouri State at 10 a.m. and William Jewell College at 12 p.m.
