Wildcats close Florida trip with 7-2 win over Malone (Ohio)

            Five different players recorded two hits to highlight a 13-hit attack as the Wayne State College softball team closed their annual Florida Spring Break trip Thursday afternoon with a 7-2 win over Malone (Ohio) at the National Training Center Spring Games in Auburndale, Florida.  WSC went 5-3 in Florida and is now 10-13 on the season while the Pioneers slip to 1-7.
            The Wildcats started the scoring with two runs in the top of the first thanks to a two-run single from Paiton Tornberg that brought home Kim Vidlak (single) and Ashley Hernandez (error).
            WSC took a 3-0 lead in the third when a Kamryn Sparks double scored Hernandez (single).
            A three-run fourth inning gave Wayne State a 6-0 lead.  Vidlak's two-run double scored Riley Holmberg (single) and Emily Hale (double) with Kortney Buresh scoring when Clare Reinhart reached base on a Malone error.
            Wayne State took a 7-0 lead in the top of the seventh when Sparks doubled and scored on a fielder's choice by Hale.
            Malone avoided a shutout by coming up with two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 7-2 final score.
            Wayne State posted 13 hits in the win, led by Sparks going 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI and run scored.  Vidlak was 2 for 5 with two RBI and run scored while Reinhart was 2 for 3 with a double and RBI.  Holmberg and Hale each finished 2 for 4 with Hale recording a double, RBI and run scored. 
            Freshman Hadley Chvatal (5-3) recorded the pitching win with four innings of work, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.  Junior Maddie Moser worked the opening three innings and did not yield a hit with four strikeouts and one walk.
            Wayne State is off until Tuesday, March 24th when the Wildcats open NSIC play at home against Augustana.
