#5 Wayne State sweeps Minnesota State in a NSIC road match

            #5 Wayne State swept Minnesota State 25-10, 25-22, 25-11 in NSIC action Saturday afternoon in Mankato, Minn. The 'Cats improve to 16-3 overall and 9-2 in the league while the Mavericks fall to 11-8 overall and 6-5 in the conference.
            Wayne State started the match hot and after a Taya Beller kill, Jordan McCormick served five points in a row including a service ace forcing a MSU timeout with the score 5-0. With the score at 13-4 Jaz DeHaan served eight consecutive points to take a 19-5 lead in the set. WSC finished out the set with a DeHaan kill 25-10.'
            The Mavericks started better in the second set and with the score 9-4 in favor of Minnesota State, the Wildcats took a timeout. The 'Cats were able to take the lead for the first time in the set at 19-18. WSC completed the set win 25-22 with a service ace from freshman libero Alaina Wolff. Maggie Brahmer led Wayne State in the set with six kills.
            With the score tied at 8-8 in the third set, the Wildcats used a kill from sophomore Elly Larson that started a 9-0 run from Wayne State to take control of the set 8-17. WSC finished off the set 25-11, led by Kelsie Cada with six kills.
            Wayne State led Minnesota State in kills by a 41-28 margin and blocks 5-4. The Wildcats had two more digs 45-43 and one more service ace 5-4. The Wildcats hit a stellar .376 in the match while the Mavericks hit .081.
            Wayne State was led offensively by Cada with 14 kills on 34 swings (.412) and Brahmer with 10 kills and one error on 16 attacks (.562). Wayne State had three blocks each from Beller and Rachel Walker.
            Walker, a sophomore setter, had 31 set assists for the Wildcats while McCormick had nine digs followed by eight digs each from Walker and Cada.
            The Wildcats will be at home next weekend hosting Upper Iowa Friday night at 6 p.m. and #8 Winona State Saturday afternoon in a 1 p.m. contest.
