Wayne State edged Nebraska-Kearney 14-7 in a three quarter controlled football scrimmage played Saturday afternoon at Bob Cunningham Field in Wayne.
The visiting Lopers marched down the field and scored on their first series of the scrimmage, driving 70 yards with running back Damien Cearns capping the drive on a five-yard TD run giving UNK an early 7-0 lead.
Wayne State scored on their second series of the opening quarter, driving 55 yards after stopping UNK on downs at the WSC 45. Quarterback
Tavian Willis fired an 11-yard pass to freshman tight end
Trey Miller with 1:01 to play in the first quarter, evening the score at 7-7.
Willis guided another Wildcat score on the next WSC possession early in the second quarter, capped by a two-yard scoring run from Hartington Cedar Catholic freshman

Alex Powders was good giving the Wildcats a 14-7 lead.
The scrimmage began with one-on-one and 7 on 7 drills by both teams.
The controlled scrimmage featured three quarters of play with starters and reserves playing. There were no kickoffs or punt returns and quarterbacks could not be tackled.
Wayne State visits Chadron State next Saturday (April 24) for a scrimmage at 11:30 a.m. Central Time.
