The Wayne State women's soccer team took the pitch for a NSIC conference matchup against Northern State Friday afternoon with the visiting Wolves taking the 2-1 win at the Wayne State Soccer Pitch. NSU improves to 3-2 and 2-1 in the league while the Wildcats slip to 0-5-1 and 0-3 in NSIC games.
The Wildcats got on the board first with a penalty kick goal from Wildcat junior midfielder
Payton Haliburton. WSC received the penalty kick opportunity after
Chloe Schlines was fouled in the box with 32 seconds remaining in the period.
The 1-0 halftime Wildcat advantage continued until the 51
st minute when the Wolves' Megan Fastenau scored on the assist from Teya Trujillo to tie the game at 1-1.
Less than two minutes later Northern State took a 2-1 advantage on the goal by Lilja Davidsdottir and gained the lead for good.
The Wolves held an 11-6 advantage in shots while the Wildcats had more corner kick opportunities 4-1.
Wayne State had one more save (4-3) and four more fouls 13-9.
Haliburton led the team with one goal on three shots, all on goal. Schlines had the only other shot on goal for the Wildcats.

Katherine Hageman received the loss with four saves and two goals allowed.
The Wildcats will be at home again Sunday afternoon hosting MSU Moorhead in a Northern Sun Conference contest starting at 1 p.m. at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
