Truman State used an eight-run third inning to defeat Wayne State College 13-3 in five innings Friday afternoon in non-conference softball played at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex in Wayne. Truman State is 1-0 on the year while WSC drops to 0-5.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning followed by one in the second and eight runs in the third for an 11-0 lead.
Wayne State got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs as
Emily Hale delivered a two-run triple to right field that scored
Natalie Arbizu (single) and
Alle Perea (fielder's choice).
Truman State produced two more runs in the top of the fifth and Wayne State closed the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a
Paiton Tornberg double that brought home
Jenna Etmans, who doubled earlier, to make the final score 13-3.
Truman State had 11 hits in the game to seven for Wayne State.
Riley Holmberg was 2 for 2 with a double and single. Hale tripled and had two RBI while Etmans and Tornberg doubled.
Kortney Buresh and Arbizu each had singles.
Junior pitcher Hadley Chvtatal (0-4) suffered the pitching loss in three innings of work while freshman
Grace Lucka worked two innings.
Wayne State is scheduled to play Newman (Kan.) at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex in Wayne.
