Cedarville (Ohio) took advantage of a season high five errors from Wayne State as the Yellow Jackets defeated the Wildcats 9-1 in five innings Thursday morning at the NTC Spring Game Softball Tournament in Auburndale, Florida. Wayne State falls to 3-15 on the year while Cedarville improved to 11-3.
Cedarville bats came out firing on all cylinders in the first by plating four runs on three hits and two Wildcat errors to take a 4-0 lead, a lead they would keep throughout the game.
After posting two scoreless frames to start the game WSC answered with their lone run in the game to cut into the Yellow Jackets lead to make it 4-1.
Kortney Buresh led off the third inning with a single followed by a
Riley Holmberg walk. They were both moved into scoring position after a sacrifice bunt from
Kim Vidlak and then Buresh scored on a
Jenna Etmans RBI sacrifice fly to center to make the score 4-1.
The Yellow Jackets would keep the Wildcat bats quiet the rest of the game while putting up two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth for a final score of 9-1 in five innings.
WSC bats put up four hits in the contest while adding two walks. Four different Wildcats collected one hit each with Holmberg reaching base safely twice going 1 for 2 with a walk. Buresh went 1 for 3 with the lone run in the game and Etmans collected the only RBI.
Hadley Chvatal took the loss for the Wildcats going 1 1/3 innings, giving up five hits, seven runs (two earned) and striking out two Yellow Jackets putting her record at 2-9 for the year.
Samantha Felt came in relief for the final three innings giving up two runs on four hits.
The Wildcats are scheduled to face Shippensburg (Pa.) in another game Thursday afternoon at the NTC Spring Games in Florida.
