The Wayne State College softball team dropped a pair of low scoring games to Concordia-St. Paul 4-1 and 3-0 in NSIC softball Saturday afternoon. The games were played in Mankato, Minnesota at the Maverick All-Sports Dome due to poor weather and field conditions in St. Paul, Minnesota. CSP is now 19-4-1 and 2-2 in the league while WSC drops to 3-22 and 0-4 in NSIC play.
The opener saw Golden Bear starter Bryanna Olson fan nine Wildcats while holding WSC to just four hits in a 4-1 Concordia-St. Paul win.
The Golden Bears scored three runs in the third inning for a 3-0 lead and scored their final run in the fourth for a 4-0 advantage.
WSC got on the board in the sixth inning as
Jenna Etmans singled with two outs and later scored on a
Paiton Tornberg single up the middle to close the scoring in the 4-1 contest.
CSP held a 6-4 edge in hits over WSC. All four WSC hits were singles by
Kortney Buresh, Etmans, Tornberg and
Alle Perea.
Hadley Chvatal and
Samantha Felt each pitched three innings for the Wildcats with Chvatal suffering the loss.
The second game saw WSC held to four hits again as the Golden Bears posted a 3-0 win for the sweep.
CSP scored two runs in the fourth and one more in the sixth for their three runs.
The 'Cats had two of their four hits in the fourth inning – singled by
Kim Vidlak and Etmans – and left two runners on base in the seventh on a
Madison Gomez single and walk to
Mary Krystofiak.
Gomez went 2 for 3 to lead WSC at the plate with a pair of singles while Vidlak and Etmans also singled.
Callie Carraher (1-3) suffered the pitching loss in four innings of work, allowing just two runs on four hits. Freshman
Samantha Felt worked the final two innings and was charged with one run on one hit.
Wayne State will face #15 Minnesota State Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Maverick All-Sports Dome in Mankato.
