The Wayne State Wildcats fell in both games of an NSIC midweek doubleheader to Winona State this afternoon at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex in Wayne. The Wildcats fall to 11-30 overall and 8-12 in the NSIC while the Warriors improve to 13-3 in the league and 27-11 overall.
Neither team was able to get on the board in the first inning, but Winona State scored five runs in the top of the second and after two innings of play, the Warriors led 5-0.
The Wildcats held the Warriors to no runs in the top of the third, but still struggled offensively. Wayne State failed to record a hit through the first three innings. Winona put up a four-run fourth to move the lead to 9-0 heading into the bottom of the frame.

Kim Vidlak started the inning off with a double to left center to earn the first hit for the Wildcats. Vidlak would come around to score on a double from third baseman

Winona State would score two more insurance runs in the fifth, ultimately winning the first game of the day 11-1 in five innings.
Junior,
Hadley Chvatal (2-15) got tagged with the loss in the first game for the Wildcats, throwing four innings with two strikeouts while allowing 12 hits and five earned runs in the game.
Tornberg and Vidlak each had a hit for the Wildcats while the Warriors tallied 14 hits in the game. Wayne State committed four errors in the contest.
The Wildcats started hot in the second game of the doubleheader, getting on the scoreboard first by plating two runs in the first.

Samantha Felt allowed just one hit in the top of the first before getting out of the half inning on a double play by the Wildcats defense.

Kortney Buresh led off the bottom half of the frame with a single before coming around to score on a triple from junior
Riley Holmberg. Holmberg scored on a RBI groundout from Vidlak, taking a 2-0 lead through one inning.
Wayne State blanked Winona State in the top of the second and third before scoring a couple more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Holmberg had a leadoff single with moving her over Vidlak with a walk. A double from junior
Madison Gomez scored Holmberg and Vidlak, and after three innings, the Wildcats held a 4-0 lead over the Warriors.
After not allowing a run through the first three innings, Felt surrendered three in the fourth. Winona State scored on a wild pitch and a two-run home run, cutting the Wayne State lead to 4-3 through four innings of play.
The Warriors started off the fifth with another homer, knotting the score 4-4. Winona State exploded offensively to take the lead during the inning, scoring 11 runs on 11 hits in the top of the fifth. Heading into the bottom of the frame, Wayne State trailed 14-4.
The Wildcats failed to score in the bottom of the fifth inning for a final of 14-4.
Holmberg led the Wildcat offense going 2 for 3 with a RBI and two runs scored. Gomez added a hit and two RBI as well as Vidlak going 1 for 2 with a walk, RBI and run scored.
The loss in the second game went to Felt, who moves to 5-8 on the season after pitching 4.2 innings.
The Wildcats scheduled road games at Bemidji State on Saturday have been moved to Wayne because of weather and will now be played on Sunday, staring at 12 p.m. at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex. Wayne State will also then take on Minnesota Crookston at 12 p.m. on Monday from Wayne.
