Annika Syvrud’s Penalty Kick Helps WSC Soccer to 1-1 Tie Against Bemidji State

A late penalty kick from the Wildcats helped force the 1-1 tie against Bemidji State Sunday afternoon in Wayne. With the tie the Wildcats are now 1-5-3 on the season and 1-3-2 in NSIC play. The Beavers are now 4-2-3 on the season and 3-1-2 in the NSIC.

Both goals would come late in the second half with Bemidji State scoring in the 74:20 minute of the match on a corner kick from Megan Majewski into the box for a header from Beavers forward Erin Becker for the score to make it 1-0 Bemidji with about 15 minutes to play.
 
The Wildcats would then take advantage late on a foul inside the box that set up midfielder Annika Syvrud for the game tying penalty kick to the top of the goal to tie the game at 1-1 at the 85:01 minute of the second half.
 
The Beavers would out shoot the Wildcats in the game 20-5 while Wayne State led the game in saves at 6-2. Bemidji State would also take nine corners to the Wildcats one.
 
Goalkeeper Hayden Wallace would have all six saves for the Wildcats in the tie. Defender Paige Pemberton would lead the Wildcats in shots in the game with two. She was followed by Riann Daas. Skylar Stueckrath and Syvrud with one shot a piece.
 
The Wildcats will be at home again next weekend, hosting Southwest Minnesota State Friday at 2 p.m. and Sioux Falls Sunday in a 1 p.m. contest.
