Late Marlow goal gives Wildcats 1-1 tie vs. SMSU

            Freshman Christina Marlow scored a goal with just over seven minutes remaining to forge a 1-1 tie against Southwest Minnesota State in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer Friday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch.  The Wildcats are now 1-5-4 and 1-3-3 in the league while SMSU is 1-3-6 and 1-3-3 in league games.
            The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half as the visiting Mustangs held a slight 6-5 edge in shots over Wildcats.
            Southwest Minnesota State opened the scoring just over 10 minutes into the second half as Haley Mason found the back of the net with an assist to Alex Lotts giving the Mustangs a 1-0 advantage.
            Wayne State came back and tied the contest with just over seven minutes to play as freshman Christina Marlow scored off a rebound with an assist to Payton Haliburton making the score 1-1.
            The Wildcats held a 10-3 edge in shots during the second half and finished the contest with a 15-9 advantage in shots.   Both teams had eight shots on goal.  SMSU had one more corner kick than WSC (4-3) and two more fouls than the Wildcats (6-4).         
            Eight different players had shots on goal for Wayne State.  Marlow scored her first goal of the season while Haliburton notched her first assist of the season. 
            Junior goalkeeper Hayden Wallace was credited with seven saves while allowing one goal in the tie.
            Wayne State will host Sioux Falls Sunday in a 1 p.m. contest at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
