Augustana used a pair of second half goals to pull away from Wayne State for a 4-1 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer victory on a blustery Friday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch. The Wildcats drop to 5-5-2 and 3-3-2 in the league while the Vikings move to 6-4-2 and 4-3-1 in NSIC play.
The Vikings opened the scoring at the 9:58 mark when Ally Hamski found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Augustana scored again three minutes later when Grace Douglas scored for the Vikings to increase the advantage to 2-0.
Wayne State scored shortly before halftime as
Kaelyn Reeves scored from right of the box with an assist from
Cleo Johnson cutting the Augustana lead to 2-1.
Both teams had four shots in the opening half, but Augustana had the wind at their backs in the second half and scored two more goals with a 10-0 shot advantage on the Wildcats as the Vikings closed with a 4-1 win.
Augustana ended the contest with a 14-4 edge in shots and 10-4 in shots on goal. The Vikings held a commanding 10-1 lead in corner kicks and were called for 13 fouls to seven on the Wildcats.
Reeves netted her second goal of the season to lead WSC.
Riann Daas had two shots on goal with
Reagan Allen adding one.
Senior goalkeeper
Hayden Wallace was credited with five saves in the contest.
The Wildcats will be on the road Sunday afternoon visiting #15 Minnesota State in Mankato at 1 p.m.
