Mavericks Take Down Wildcats 1-0

The early first half goal for Minnesota State was enough to hold off Wayne State Sunday afternoon as the Mavericks soccer defeated the Wildcats 1-0 in Mankato. Minnesota State moves to 9-1-4 on the season (7-0-3 NSIC). Wayne State falls to 5-6-2 on the year with a 3-4-2 record in the NSIC. 

The Mavericks would come out firing out shots on the Wildcats putting out five shots in the first 13 minutes of the game. The only score of the game was scored in the 13:20 minute of the first half by Allie Williams for her fifth goal of the season. 

Reagan Allen would have the first shot of the game for the Wildcats in the 14:12 moment of the first half that just went high. Overall, the Mavericks would out shoot the Wildcats in the first half 16-3. The Wildcats would have just one shot on goal in the half by Skylar Stueckrath

WSC kept the second half even in shots at seven to seven but no one was able to get a goal in the half. 

Cleo Johnson, Olivia Bollman and Stueckrath would all have shots on goal for the Wildcats in the loss. Allie Williams for the Mavericks would have eight shots with two on goal with a goal scored for the Mavericks. Goalkeeper Hayden Wallace would have three saves in the loss for WSC. 

As a team WSC were outshot 23-10. MSU would also have six corner kicks to WSC three. 

Wayne State will next be in action next weekend in a road trip starting on Friday with Minnesota Crookston at 3 p.m. and next Sunday vs. Bemidji State at 1 p.m.
