Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

'Cats post first win over Bemidji State since 2010 with 1-0 shutout at BSU

Sophomore midfielder Paige Pemberton's shot deflected off a Bemidji State defender for a goal in the 54th minute to lead Wayne State College in a 1-0 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer win at Bemidji State Sunday afternoon.  It marks the first time since 2010 that the Wildcats beat the Beavers, ending a skid of 0-10-1 vs. BSU dating back to the 2010 win in Wayne, which was a 2-1 Wildcat victory.  WSC is now 7-6-2 and 5-4-2 in the NSIC while the Beavers fall to 8-2-3 and 6-2-3 in league play.
The two teams played to a scoreless first half with BSU holding a slight 6-2 edge in shots on the Wildcats.
Just over nine minutes into the second half, Pemberton played the ball from the right side of the box and a kick deflected off a Bemidji State defender and went over the goalkeepers out-stretched hands for a goal, the lone goal of the contest.
It was Pemberton's second goal of the season.
BSU outshot WSC 14-2 in the second half and finished the contest with a 20-4 shot advantage including 6-3 in shots on goal.
Sydney Schnase and Maia Vacks also recorded shots on goal for WSC in the contest.
Senior goalkeeper Hayden Wallace picked up her seventh win of the season credited with six saves in the contest.
Wayne State returns home for NSIC contests next weekend hosting Minot State Friday at 3 p.m. and the University of Mary Sunday at 12 p.m.
