The University of Mary scored in the final minute of the first half for the lone goal of the contest as the Marauders defeated Wayne State College 1-0 in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer Sunday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch. UMary is now 8-6-3 and 7-4-2 in the league while WSC drops to 7-7-3 and 5-5-3 in NSIC play.
UMary's Olivia Gardner scored a goal with an assist from Ava Vizenor with just 54 seconds to play in the first half for the lone goal of the contest.
The Marauders held a 6-3 edge in shots in the first half, but Wayne State posted 10 shots (six on goal) in the second half but could not find the goal for the equalizer.
The final five minutes saw one corner kick and four shots by WSC but the 'Cats were not able to score to force a tie or take the lead.
Wayne State ended the contest with a 13-10 advantage in shots and 8-2 in shots on goal. The Wildcats also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks while UMary was whistled for 12 fouls to 10 on the Wildcats.
Paige Pemberton had five shots (four on goal) for the Wildcats while
Maia Vacks and
Cleo Johnson each had two shots and one on goal.
Senior goalkeeper
Hayden Wallace allowed just one goal and was credited with one save in the contest.
Wayne State concludes the regular season Thursday (November 2) with a road trip to Winona State for a 5 p.m. contest.
