For the third straight week, Wayne State junior middle hitter
Maggie Brahmer has been honored by the Northern Sun Conference with Player of the Week honors announced Monday afternoon. The Pierce graduate was named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week for a second straight week after earning Defensive Player of the Week accolades September 25
th.
Brahmer, a 6-0 junior middle hitter from Pierce (Pierce HS), posted a sizzling .634 hitting percentage while averaging 5.60 kills per set – both league highs last week – in leading the #1 ranked Wildcats to three NSIC home wins. She started the week with a career-best 25 kills and .694 hitting percentage with no errors in last Tuesday's 3-1 win over Winona State. Brahmer then recorded 15 kills on 25 attacks with a .480 hitting percentage in Friday's 3-0 sweep over Bemidji State and had 16 kills and a .714 hitting percentage Saturday in a 3-0 sweep over Minnesota Crookston.
For the week, Brahmer had 56 kills on 82 attacks with just four errors for a .634 hitting percentage after recording a .633 hitting percentage last week.
This season, Brahmer leads the NSIC and ranks sixth in NCAA Division II with a .450 hitting percentage. She is second in the league in points per set (4.41), tied for second in blocks per set (1.07) and is third in kills per set at 3.80.
Wayne State, ranked #1 in the AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, is 17-1 overall and first place in the NSIC with an 8-0 league mark. The Wildcats have two matches this week, playing at Augustana Thursday evening at 6 p.m. followed by a Saturday afternoon home match vs. Minnesota State at 3 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
