Wildcats now 7-0 after big win over Nebraska-Kearney

            Wayne State used 52 percent field goal shooting and four players scoring in double figures as the Wildcats rolled past in-state rival Nebraska-Kearney 95-68 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's basketball game played at Rice Auditorium.  The 'Cats are now 7-0 while the Lopers fall to 2-2.
            The visiting Lopers showed up ready to play and held the lead for much of the opening 10 minutes of play.
            UNK made a pair of treys to open the game for a 6-0 lead and was in front 10-5 three minutes into the game.
            The Lopers still held a 19-16 lead at the 13:26 mark when the Wildcats got a Trey Deveaux layup and two David Harmon free throws to take their first lead at 20-19 with 12:40 to go before halftime.
            UNK regained the lead shortly at 21-20, but WSC scored the next eight points to take the lead for good at 28-21. 
            A JJ Ferrin 3-pointer with 8:45 to go in the half gave the Wildcats their first double figure lead of the game at 34-23.  The Wildcats continued to extend their lead and scored the final 12 points of the first half to take a commanding 57-33 advantage into the locker room at the break.
            The Wildcats shot 53.7 percent (22-41) in the first half including 7 of 14 from 3-point range to build their lead.
            Wayne State was never challenged in the second half as the 'Cats maintained mostly a 20 point plus lead throughout as 11 different Wildcats found their names in the scorebook in the second half and Wayne State finished with an impressive 95-68 victory.
            The Wildcats ended the game making 36 of 69 shots for 52.2 percent.  WSC was 11 of 24 from the 3-point line and hit 12 of 14 free throws.
            Deveaux paced a balanced scoring attack for WSC with 20 points on 9 of 13 shooting.  David Harmon chipped in 15 points while Elijah Watson, Cody McCullough and JJ Ferrin each accounted for 12 points.
            Migeul Robles had 13 points for UNK while Taden King and Sean Evans also hit double digits with 10 each.
            The Lopers shot 41.4 percent from the field on 24 of 58, going 7 of 19 from the 3-point line.  UNK was 13 for 18 at the free throw line.
            WSC held a 38-32 edge in rebounding over the Lopers thanks to seven boards from Watson and six by Deveaux.
            Wayne State forced 16 UNK turnovers, resulting in a 23-8 edge in points off turnovers.  Jay Saunders was credited with seven assists and a team-high three steals while Deveaux had two blocked shots.
            The Wildcats return to Northern Sun Conference play next weekend with a road trip to #16 Minnesota Duluth Saturday at 12 p.m. and Sunday at Concordia-St. Paul in a 2 p.m. contest.
