SMSU Spring Invitational Final Results
Wayne State improved by nine shots on the second day to finish in seventh place at the Southwest Minnesota State Spring Women's Golf Invitational played Tuesday and Wednesday at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Arizona. It was the first meet for the Wildcats in the spring 2023 season.
The Wildcats posted rounds of 325 and 316 for a 36-hole team score of 641.
Western New Mexico captured the team title with a 599 (293-306) followed by Missouri Western in second at 616 (306-310). Chadron State came in third shooting 624 to finish just ahead of fourth place Westminster College of Utah at 628. Minnesota State (630) and Southwest Minnesota State (634) finished fifth and sixth with Wayne State seventh at 641.
Rounding out the team scoring were Minot State (674), Concordia (Nebraska) at 725 and Bemidji State 10
th with a team score of 727.
Millard North junior
Jazmine Taylor led the Wildcats with back-to-back rounds of 79 for a two-day score of 158 to tie for 16
th overall. Her two rounds in the 70's were the fifth and sixth rounds in the 70's this season.
Freshman
Saffire Sayre also tied for 16
th at 158 following scores of 78 and 80. Her opening round 78 was the third score in the 70's this season.
Sophomore Abby Brodersen tied for 26
th overall with a 162 after shooting rounds of 84 and 78. Wednesday's round of 78 for Brodersen included a team-high three birdies.
Junior
Abbey Kurmel shot rounds of 84 and 79 to finish in a tie for 28
th at 163. Kurmel's 79 on Wednesday featured a pair of birdies and was her fifth round in the 70's this season.
Junior
Tricia Hemann, playing as an individual, tied for 33
rd overall at 164 following scores of 86 and 78. Wednesday's round of 78 matched a season-high for Hemann.
Senior
Viktoria Bortkiewicz-Hamelin recorded rounds of 86 and 82 and tied for 43
rd overall with a two-day total of 168.
Wayne State will play Thursday and Friday in the SMSU Challenge at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
