Three Wildcats named All-NSIC in women's golf - Nick Swaney voted NSIC Coach of the Year

            Three players from the Wayne State College women's golf team were voted to the 2025-26 Northern Sun Conference Women's Golf All-Conference Team announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota while Wildcat head coach Nick Swaney received NSIC Coach of the Year honors.  Sophomore Gaia Stancikova was a repeat selection to the NSIC All-Conference First Team while juniors Hailey Kenkel and Erica Lee both received Second Team honors.
            Stancikova, a sophomore from Castel San Pietro Terme, Italy, eclipsed her own single season school record for scoring average set last season by averaging 76.80 this season in 20 rounds played.  She recorded two tournament wins this season to go with three top-five and four top-10 finishes.  Stancikova captured individual medalist honors at the NSIC Championships in Blue Springs, Missouri April 22-24 shooting +8 224 over 54 holes winning the championship in a four-hole playoff over Concordia-St. Paul's Addi Wood.  She also had a tie for first with Wildcat teammate Hailey Kenkel at the Nebraska Intercollegiate Invite October 6-7 in Fremont shooting 78-75 (153) and was named NSIC Golfer of the Week April 8th after shooting a 54-hole school record 221 highlighted by an even-par 72 at the Spring Region Preview in Oklahoma.
            Kenkel, a junior from Grand Island (Grand Island Senior HS), earned All-NSIC Second Team honors after a stellar junior campaign for the Wildcats posting a season scoring average of 78.70 playing in all 27 rounds.  She accounted for one tournament win, three top-five and four top-10 finishes this season.  Kenkel earned a first-place finish at the Nebraska Intercollegiate Invite in Fremont (October 6-7) beating team Gaia Stancikova on the second hole of a playoff shooting a one-under-par 71 on the final day of the event to tie a school record for lowest 18-hole score.  Kenkel also posted a third-place finish at the Sioux Falls Invitational (October 13-14) shooting 74-80 (154) and was tied for fifth at the Wildcat Classic (April 13-14) firing a 151 (75-76).
              Lee, a junior from Millard North HS, was voted All-NSIC Second Team after recording a team-high six top-10 finishes this season and a scoring average of 78.22 while playing all 27 rounds with 19 rounds in the 70's.  She was named to the NSIC All-Tournament Team after finishing in a tie for fifth at 232 (78-78-76) at the NSIC Championships April 22-24.  Lee also tied for fifth at the Wildcat Classic April 13-14 posting scores of 75-76 for a 151 and tied the school record for lowest 18-hole score shooting a one-under-par 71 in the final round of the Spring Region Preview in Oklahoma April 7th.   
            Swaney was voted NSIC Coach of the Year after leading the Wildcats to their first-ever NSIC Women's Golf Championship this season, leading to second straight NCAA Central Regional appearance for the program.  He coached the Wildcats to three tournament wins this season and for the fourth straight year under Swaney Wayne State set a new single season team scoring average posting a 312.89 per round this season.  Swaney also coached his first NSIC individual medalist this year in Stancikova and in his four years at WSC has had two All-NSIC First Team and eighth All-NSIC Second Team players. 
            Wayne State ended the 2025-26 season with its first-ever NSIC Women's Golf Championship and qualified for the NCAA Division II Central Regional Championships for a second straight year placing 17th overall.
