Game Recap: Softball |

Wildcats suffer 5-2 loss to Lewis (Ill.)

Lewis (Ill.) 5 Wayne State 2

Wayne State seniors Kim Vidlak and Riley Holmberg combined to go 6 for 8 at the plate but could not overcome Lewis University with five players recording multi-hit games as the Flyers defeated the Wildcats 5-2 Thursday morning at the National Training Center Spring Softball Games in Leesburg, Florida.  Lewis is now 10-6 with the win while Wayne State drops to 3-13.
Both teams scored single runs in the third inning.  Wayne State's run came on a two-out RBI double from Kim Vidlak that scored Louisa Stowman (fielder's choice) to tie the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the third.
Lewis produced two runs in the top of the fifth to grab a 3-1 lead, but Wayne State used another two-out rally to score once in the bottom of the inning to reduce the Flyer advantage to 3-2.  Stowman laced a two-out single to left field and scored on a triple to right field from Vidlak.
The Flyers added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to close the scoring for the 5-2 win.
Lewis had 13 hits in the game to nine by the Wildcats.  Vidlak was 3 for 4 with a double, triple and both WSC runs batted in.  Holmberg was 3 for 4 with three singles while Stowman singled and scored both Wildcat runs.  Hayley Murphy and Lauren Laudick also had hits for WSC.
Starting pitcher Sami Felt worked 4 1/3 innings with freshman Sophie Stuart coming on in relief to work the final 2 2/3 innings.
Wayne State was slated to face Illinois Springfield in another game Thursday afternoon at the National Training Center Spring Games in Florida.
