Wayne State and Minnesota Crookston split a Northern Sun Conference softball doubleheader Saturday at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex as each team used late inning rallies to win their games. WSC won the opener 11-8 after trailing 7-1 thanks to a three-run sixth while the Golden Eagles scored seven runs in the seventh inning to take the nightcap 14-7. The Wildcats are now 11-33 and 6-15 in the NSIC while UMC is 16-25 and 4-12.
The opener saw WSC rally from a 7-1 deficit while overcoming nine walks to register an 11-8 win.
A five-run fourth inning got WSC back in the game to tie the score at 8-8.
Kim Vidlak two-run double was the big hit in the inning as WSC had just two hits in the frame while taking advantage of two Golden Eagle errors.
The score stayed tied until the sixth when the 'Cats had five hits to score three runs for the win. A Madi Gomez double down the right field line scored Vidlak with the go-ahead run.

Callie Carraher (1-1) picked up the win with 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out four batters.
WSC had 13 hits in the win, led by Vidlak going 3 for 4 with three runs scored and a double. Sweeney was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI, Holmberg 2 for 4 with two runs scored, Tornberg 2 for 2 with three RBIs and Gomez 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.
The second game saw the visiting Golden Eagles rally from a 5-0 deficit and score seven runs in the seventh to win 14-7.
The 'Cats scored five in the first thanks to a two-run single by
Louisa Stowman and an RBI double from Vidlak.
Holmberg had an RBI single in the third giving WSC a 6-4 lead.
UMC took a short lived 7-6 lead with three runs in the top of the fifth, but WSC came back with one run in the bottom of the frame to even the score at 7-7 on an RBI groundout.
Minnesota Crookston then erupted for seven runs on four hits and one Wildcat error for a 14-7 win.
Wayne State had 11 hits, led by Stowman going 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Holmberg was 2 for 5 with two RBI and Vidlak 2 for 3.
