#4 Wildcats cap perfect weekend in California with sweep over Azusa Pacific

Senior outside hitter Kelsie Cada becomes eighth player in school history with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs

            Wayne State College capped a perfect weekend in California Saturday evening as the fourth-ranked Wildcats swept Azusa Pacific 25-17, 25-13, 25-13 to close play at the Golden Eagle Invitational held in Irvine, California.  WSC is now 4-0 on the year while the Cougars drop to 1-3.
            The Wildcats trailed just once in the entire match.  In the opening set, Taya Beller produced six kills with Maggie Brahmer adding four as WSC picked up a 25-17 set win.
            Wayne State held the Cougars to negative hitting percentages in the final two sets as the 'Cats posted consecutive 25-13 set wins to sweep the match.
            In the second set, senior setter Rachel Walker and Brahmer each had four kills and three blocks to pace the 'Cats as WSC posted four blocks and held Azusa Pacific to a -.027 hitting percentage.
            The 'Cats finished the match with another 25-13 set win with five more blocks, forcing 10 attack errors by the Cougars.  Beller had five kills while Brahmer collected three kills and three blocks.
            Wayne State ended the match hitting .270 with 45 kills while holding Azusa Pacific to .026 on 27 kills and 24 errors.  The 'Cats held a 13-8 edge in blocks and had the only two service aces of the contest.
            Beller led WSC with 14 kills followed by Brahmer at 11.  Brahmer posted eight blocks in the win.
            Senior outside hitter Kelsie Cada had five kills and with 18 digs became just the eighth player in school history to record over 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.  The Wahoo native now has 1,021 kills and 1,018 digs as a Wildcat.
            Libero Jordan McCormick added 12 digs in the win while setter Rachel Walker had 32 set assists along with six kills.
            The Wildcats will play next weekend at the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver, facing Texas Tyler Friday at 11 a.m. Central Time and #18 Regis University at 7 p.m.
