#3 Wayne State down University of Texas-Tyler in Colorado Premier Challenge Opener

Taya Beller and Kelsie Cada combined for 19 kills in a 3-0 sweep of University of Texas-Tyler in the opener of the Colorado Premier Challenge. WSC moves to 5-0 on the season while UTT falls to 4-1 on the year. 

Cada would lead WSC in the match with ten kills and five digs. Beller would add nine kills for WSC and Bramher would have eight for the 'Cats. Rachel Walker would be the leader in digs for Wayne State with 12 in the match. The Wildcats would hit .337 in the match to UTT .205. 

Set 1: Wayne State 25 Texas-Tyler 23

The first set would start off back and forth between the Wildcats and the Patriots. WSC would be up 7-6 early in the first set before forcing three attack errors from UTT allowing WSC to build a six point lead at 12-6. UTT would cut the Wildcat lead to just four at 13-9 before Channatee Robles would get a kill to end the Patriots run. A pair of attack errors from UTT would allow a 16-9 WSC lead. Texas-Tyler would then open up an 8-3 run on the Wildcats cutting the lead down to just two at 19-17. The Wildcat lead would not get cut into any further as they maintained at least a two point lead the rest of the set before going on to win the set 25-23. 

Beller and Maggie Brahmer led Wayne State in the set with three kills each. 

Set 2: Wayne State 25 Texas-Tyler 17

Wayne State would open up the set going on a quick 8-3 run to build their lead. A pair of kills from UTT following the run would cut it to 8-5 before Wayne State would use a kill from Cada, a service ace and kill from Rachel Walker, along with a block from Beller and Brahmer to build a 13-5 lead on UTT. Texas-Tyler would try to battle back, cutting the Wayne State lead down to 18-14, but the Wildcats would end the set on a 7-3 run making the final 25-17. Wayne State would never trail in set two.

Set two would see Cada, Bramher, and Beller all with three kills. Beller and Robles would also add a pair of blocks for the Wildcats in the set two win. 

Set 3: Wayne State 25 Texas-Tyler 20 

Wayne State would have the early 4-1 lead in set number three before the Patriots would add three points to tie up the set. WSC would then go on a run of their own to open up the lead at 8-4. Texas-Tyler would tie the game up at 8-8 before taking their first lead of the set at 10-9. Texas-Tyler would extend their lead to 14-12 on WSC before the teams would trade pairs of points. UTT would lead 16-14 before WSC would go on a 3-0 run to take the lead at 17-16. UTT would then go on a 3-0 run before WSC would take control of the game going on a 6-0 run to make it 23-19 WSC. Wayne State would go on to win the set 25-19. 

Cada would lead WSC with six kills in set three followed by Beller with three. 

Wayne State will be in action in their second game of the day at 7 p.m. local time (6 p.m. MT) against #19 Regis.
