Northern State used a goal in the 34
th minute to hold up for a 1-0 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer win over Wayne State College Friday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch. The Wolves are now 5-2-1 and 4-0-1 in league play while the Wildcats drop to 4-4-1 and 2-2-1 in the NSIC.
Wayne State's lone shot on goal came at the 32:30 mark of the first half when a
Skylar Stueckrath shot was saved by NSU goalkeeper Alexus Townsend.
Less than two minutes later Northern State scored the lone goal of the contest as Sophie Taylor found the back of the net with an assist from Avery Blasdel to put the Wolves in front 1-0.
NSU ended the first half with 6-2 advantage in shots over the Wildcats and held an identical 6-2 edge in shots in the second half on WSC.
Northern State had one more corner kick than the Wildcats 5-4 while WSC was called for one more foul than NSU 6-5.
Stueckrath had the lone shot on goal for WSC while
Annika Syvrud,
Maia Vacks and
Cleo Johnson were each credited with shots.
Senior goalkeeper
Hayden Wallace was credited with seven saves in the loss while allowing just one goal.
The Wildcats will be at home again Sunday afternoon hosting MSU Moorhead in a 12 p.m. start at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
