The Wayne State College women's golf team withstood challenges from Augustana and Winona State to capture the team title at the Sioux Falls Women's Golf Invitational played Monday and Tuesday at Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort in Larchwood, Iowa.
WSC shot team rounds of 309 and 317 to finish with a 36-hole total of 626, six shots better than Augustana and Winona State who both shot team scores of 316 both days to close at 632. Host Sioux Falls followed in fourth at 636 (312-324) with Minnesota Crookston taking fifth in the 10-team tournament at 648 (320-328).
Senior
Abbigail Brodersen led a balanced scoring attack for the Wildcats, placing second overall out of 63 players, with rounds of 73 (+1) and 78 for a 151. The Albion native was three strokes behind medalist Clara Hanson of Minnesota Crookston.
Broken Bow freshman
Camryn Johnson and Millard North sophomore
Erica Lee both finished tied for fifth overall with scores of 156. Johnson carded rounds of 77 and 79 while Lee produced scores of 75 and 81.
Sophomore
Hailey Kenkel shot a final round 79 Tuesday to finish at 165 (86-79), tied for 27
th overall along with junior
Saffire Sayre (84-81).
Two other Wildcats played as individuals as freshman
Gaia Stancikova finished in a tie for 24
th overall at 164 with scores of 82 and 82 while junior
Meg Thompson shot scores of 80 and 88 for a 168 to finish tied for 34
th.
