Wayne State freshman
Madilyn Schmeling scored a first half goal to lead Wayne State in a 1-1 tie at Northern State Sunday afternoon in Northen Sun Conference women's soccer. Both teams are now 4-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in NSIC play following the contest.
The Wildcats got on the scoreboard first as Schmeling scored her first collegiate goal with an assist from
Maia Vacks putting WSC in front 1-0 at the 18:57 mark.
WSC closed the first half with a 7-4 edge in shots and had three of the four corner kicks in the opening half.
The host Wolves were able to tie the contest in the 76
th minute when Eva Larson recorded her second goal of the year off an assist by Alexis Phillips and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Wayne State ended the game with a 15-7 advantage in shots and 9-6 in shots on goal. The 'Cats also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks on the Wolves. NSU was called for one more foul than WSC 8-7.
Schmeling had a team-high four shots with two on goal that included her first collegiate goal. Junior forward
Reagan Allen accounted for three shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper
Sidney Truman was credited with five saves while allowing one goal in moving her record to 4-3-3 on the season.
The next contest for the Wildcats is Sunday, October 13 at Concordia-St. Paul starting at 1 p.m.
