Two goals in the opening four minutes of the second half propelled Minot State in a 2-0 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer victory over Wayne State Sunday afternoon at Minot, North Dakota. The host Beavers improved to 9-3-4 and 7-3-3 in the league with the win while the Wildcats slipped to 6-6-5 overall and 5-4-4 in the NSIC.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half with Minot State holding an 8-2 edge in shots and 4-1 in corner kicks.
But the host Beavers struck twice for goals in the opening four minutes of the second half to take control of the contest.
Mia Lewis scored at the 47:29 mark of the second half with an assist by Maria Pacheco Martinez to put the host Beavers in front 1-0.
Less than two minutes later Minot State scored again when Anna Miotto converted a penalty kick at the 49:19 mark to give the Beavers a 2-0 advantage and close the scoring.
Minot State finished the contest with an 18-8 edge in shots including 9-4 in shots on goal. The Beavers held a 6-4 lead in corner kicks and were called for seven fouls to four on the Wildcats.
Three Wildcats recorded the combined eight shots with junior forward
Reagan Allen notching four shots and three on goal.
Morgan Rhodes added two shots and the remaining shot on goal while
Riann Daas recorded two shots.
Fifth-year goalkeeper
Sidney Truman played all 90 minutes for the Wildcats and was credited with seven saves while allowing two goals.
Wayne State closes the regular season at home Thursday afternoon hosting Winona State in a 3 p.m. contest at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
