Sorensen goals lifts Wildcats in 1-0 win over Winona State

Wayne State junior midfielder Alaina Sorensen scored a goal in the 52nd minute to lead the Wildcats in a 1-0 victory over Winona State in the Northern Sun Conference women's soccer regular season finale for both teams at the WSC Soccer Pitch.  It was just the third win for WSC over Winona State in women's soccer in 32 career meetings between the schools.  Wayne State is now 7-6-5 and 6-4-4 in the NSIC while Winona State ends the year at 6-8-2 and 5-8-1 in league play.
The two teams played a scoreless first half with Winona State holding a slim 6-5 edge in shots over the Wildcats.
Early in the second half Wayne State got on the scoreboard as freshman defender Addison Walker directed a ball into the middle of the box that was played by Sorensen who scored in the right corner of the goal for a 1-0 Wildcat lead at the 52:06 mark.
Winona State held an 11-7 advantage in shots during the second half, but Wildcat goalkeeper Sidney Truman defended the net and stopped all eight shots on goal for eight saves in preserving a 1-0 Wildcat victory.
The visiting Warriors held a 17-12 edge in shots over Wayne State and 8-6 in shots on goal.  WSC held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks on the Warriors with Winona State called for 10 fouls (two yellow cards) to seven fouls on the Wildcats.
Sorensen had five shots and four shots on goal that included her team leading seventh goal of the season to lead Wayne State.  Riann Daas and Maia Vacks were also credited with shots on goal.
Truman recorded eight saves for her sixth shutout this season.
Wayne State now awaits results from other matches Thursday evening to determine if the Wildcats advance to the NSIC Tournament that starts Monday, November 11th
