Wayne State Falls to Minnesota Duluth 70-57

    Bulldogs would prove to be too much for the Wildcats as Minnesota Duluth would take a 70-57 Saturday afternoon in Wayne. Minnesota Duluth improves to 14-7 on the season with a 11-6 record in NSIC play while the Wildcats fall to 5-14 with a 2-14 record in the NSIC.
 
    Wayne State would build their largest lead of the night in the opening minutes of the game at 7-4 following a Maya Fitzpatrick three with 7:51 left to play in the first quarter. UMD would go on a 4-0 run following to set up the first media timeout of the game with the Bulldogs leading 8-7. UMD would build their largest lead of the first quarter at 15-9 before leading by just four at the end of one following a Britney Ho basket at 15-11.
 
    Minnesota Duluth would quickly extend their lead to open the second quarter up to nine at 20-11 with 8:10 left to play in the quarter. WSC would attempt to cut into the lead leading up to the first media timeout of the quarter at 22-15 in favor of the Bulldogs with 4:29 left to play. UMD would go on a 7-4 run to end the quarter and take 13-point lead into the locker room at 34-21.
 
    At halftime, WSC was shooting only 30.4 percent (7-23) from the floor. The Wildcats were led by Britney Ho with six points and followed by Fitzpatrick with five. Britney Ho was the leading rebounder for the 'Cats with seven rebounds at the half. UMD would shoot 32.4 percent from the floor in the half. The Bulldogs would also lead the rebounding battle 21-15 in the first half.
 
    The two teams would spend the beginning of the third quarter trading baskets with the Wildcats cutting the lead down to just ten following a Carsyn Boswell three-point basket with 5:35 left to play in the quarter. Boswell would cut the lead to eight following the media timeout, but the Bulldogs would go on another 12-2 run to push the lead to 18 at the end of the third quarter with the score of 53-35.
 
    The Bulldogs would extend their lead opening the fourth quarter to 25 before Wayne State would use a timeout with 7:22 left to play in the contest. UMD would not look back leading by as many as 26 in the quarter. Wayne State though however would end the game on a 17-4 run which included three Delaney Clark three pointers. UMD would win the game though by a final score of 70-57.
 
    Wayne State would shoot 38.5 percent in the loss and 43.8 percent from behind the arc. The Bulldogs would post a 44.3 shooting percentage from the court while shooting just 33.3 percent from the three-point line. The Bulldogs were also 10-12 from the free throw line while the Wildcats were just 8-16 in the contest. UMD would also out rebound the Wildcats 40-30 in the win for the Bulldogs.
 
    WSC was led by a double-double from Britney Ho who posted 14 points and 10 rebounds. She was followed by Fitzpatrick with 12 points and Clark with nine points.
 
    Wayne State will be back on the road next weekend when they travel to Minnesota State Friday February 9th at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday against Winona State at 3:30 p.m.
