Despite a 3 for 3 game by freshman catcher
Haylee Weber, the Wayne State College softball team suffered an 8-0 loss in six innings to 13
th-ranked Southern Arkansas Friday afternoon at the Alvy Early Memorial Softball Tournament in Bentonville, Arkansas. WSC is now 0-2 on the year while the Muleriders are now 5-1.
Southern Arkansas scored two runs in the second for a 2-0 lead.
WSC had a chance to score in the bottom of the frame but left the bases loaded without scoring.
Dylan Sweeney and
Abby Husing walked with Weber notching a single to load the bases with two outs, but the 'Cats could not score.
The Muleriders took a 5-0 lead in the third with three runs and added three more runs in the sixth for the 8-0 win.
Southern Arkansas held an 11-5 advantage in hits over the 'Cats. Weber went 3 for 3 with three singles to lead WSC while
Jordyn Klein and
Masyn Bunnell each singled.
Senior
Callie Carraher was tagged with the pitching loss working 2 2/3 innings. Sophomore
Sophie Stuart pitched the remaining 3 1/3 innings of relief.
Wayne State will face Northeastern State of Oklahoma and Washburn on Saturday to conclude play at the Alvy Early Memorial Tournament in Bentonville, Arkansas.
