Wayne State scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Quincy College (Ill.) 3-2 Friday afternoon at the National Training Center Spring Games Softball Tournament in Florida. The Wildcats are now 3-19 while Quincy is 8-8 on the season.
The Hawks scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings and held a 2-0 lead entering the bottom of the seventh.
The Wildcats opened the seventh with a leadoff single from
Lillie Timm.
Annika Manzanares singled with one out giving WSC runners on the corners with one out.
Freshman catcher
Haylee Weber doubled to bring home two runs, tying the score at 2-2. Freshman
Emilee Marth followed with the game-winning single scoring pinch-runner
Louisa Stowman with the game-winning run giving the 'Cats a thrilling 3-2 victory.
Wayne State had seven hits in the game. Marth was 3 for 3 with a triple and game-winning RBI to lead the way. Weber added a two-run double while Timm, Manzanares and
Lauren Laudick each singled.
Junior
Grace Lucka fired a complete game in the circle to record the win, now 2-3 on the year. She yielded two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Wayne State plays two more games Saturday at the NTC Spring Games in Florida, facing McKendree (Ill.) at 9:15 a.m. and Saint Anselm College (N.H.) at 1:45 p.m.
