Box Score Wayne State held a 10-7 advantage in hits over McKendree, but the Bearcats belted two home runs and had four walks result in runs to defeat the Wildcats 8-5 Saturday morning at the National Training Center Spring Games in Winter Haven, Florida. With the win McKendree is now 11-7 while Wayne State drops to 3-20.
The Bearcats took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning on a three-run homer.
Wayne State got a run back in the second inning when
Annika Manzanares singled and later scored on a double by freshman catcher
Haylee Weber to cut the McKendree lead to 3-1.
The Bearcats got a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning, building the advantage to 5-1.
The Wildcats scored one run in the fourth when Manzanares walked and crossed home plate on
Mary Krystofiak's single to make the score 5-2.
McKendree added three runs in the fifth inning, taking an 8-2 lead.
Wayne State battled back in the sixth inning by also scoring three runs on five hits to reduce the Bearcat lead to 8-5.
Lauren Laudick's RBI single brought home pinch-runner
Masyn Bunnell (Weber single) with the first run.
Jordyn Klein's ground out scored pinch-runner
Payton Kincaid (Krystofiak single) with the next run while
Lillie Timm had an RBI single that drove home Laudick for the final Wildcat run.
The Wildcats had 10 hits in the contest, led by Krystofiak going 3 for 4 with three singles. Weber was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI with
Emilee Marth also recording two hits, a pair of singles. Manzanares singled, walked and scored two runs while Laudick and Timm each singled.

Callie Carraher started the game in the circle with junior reliever Sami Felt working the final five innings in relief.
Wayne State plays Saint Anselm College (N.H.) at the NTC Spring Games in Florida Saturday afternoon.
