West Virginia Wesleyan posts 3-1 win over Wildcats

West Virginia Wesleyan snapped a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fourth inning to defeat Wayne State 3-1 Friday afternoon at the National Training Center Spring Games Softball Tournament in Florida.  The Bobcats move to 7-7 with the win while WSC slips to 2-19.
The Wildcats scored first in the second inning as Hayley Murphy doubled and scored on a single to right field from Annika Manzanares to put WSC in front early.
West Virginia Wesleyan countered with a single run in the second and used four hits to score two runs in the fourth to grab a 3-1 advantage.
Wayne State appeared to have a scoring opportunity in the fifth inning as Jordyn Rochholz reached on an error followed by a Lillie Timm single giving the 'Cats two base runners with just one out.  Pinch-runner Abby Husing stole second base, giving WSC runners at second and third but the Bobcats got out of the inning with a strikeout and ground out to keep the score 3-1.
The Bobcats held a 9-5 edge in hitting over Wayne State.  Timm finished 2 for 3 at the plate with a pair of singles and a walk.  Murphy doubled while Lauren Laudick and Manzanares each singled.
Starting pitcher Sami Felt worked the opening 3 1/3 innings in the circle while junior Grace Lucka came on to close the final 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief while striking out five West Virginia Wesleyan batters.
Wayne State will play Quincy (Ill.) Friday afternoon at the National Training Center Spring Games in Florida.
