Wayne State athletes continued to excel in the classroom during the 2023-24 academic year.
As an athletic department, Wayne State student-athletes achieved 3.445 cumulative grade point average with all 15 Wildcat teams ending the spring semester with a cumulative grade point average above 3.00.
"It gives me great pride and appreciation to see the outstanding academic achievements of our student-athletes," remarked Wayne State Director of Athletics Mike Powicki. "Their collective dedication and commitment to excellence in the classroom continues to set a high standard for Wayne State College Athletics."
Powicki added, "It takes incredible work ethic and determination to succeed as a Division II student-athlete. We also have devoted and caring faculty who support our student-athletes, so we are very grateful for their work as well."
On the men's side, cross country maintained a 3.571 grade point average followed by baseball at 3.463. Indoor and outdoor track and field posted grade point averages of 3.407 with men's basketball (3.243) and football at 3.036 rounding out men's sports cumulative grade point averages.
Four of nine Wildcat women's sports had cumulative grade point averages over 3.60, led by women's basketball at 3.659. Volleyball and beach volleyball followed at 3.648 and cross country had a 3.603 grade point average. Women's golf produced a 3.577 grade point average, outdoor track and field recorded a 3.454 grade point average, softball and indoor track and field each had 3.444 grade point averages with soccer maintaining a 3.350 GPA.
Wayne State student-athletes earned four College Sports Communicator Academic All-American honors so far this year with four athletes named NSIC Elite 18 – Quentin Dreyer (men's cross country), Jordan McCorrmick (volleyball), Gabe Peitz (Outdoor Track/Field) and Nate Cunningham (baseball) – as the top scholar athlete at a conference championship. McCormick also received the NCAA Elite 90 Award as the top scholar athlete at the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships.
WSC student athletes have also garnered a record 20 NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic With Distinction Awards for outgoing seniors, 40 College Sports Communicator Academic All-District selections, 51 student-athletes who had a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the 2024 spring semester, 176 NSIC All-Academic Team selections and 246 Edward Jones Presidential Scholar Athlete Award winners.
