After matching a single-game school record with 13 blocks during Saturday's come-from-behind 3-2 win over #10 St. Cloud State, Wayne State sophomore middle hitter
Chloe Hanel was selected Monday morning as the Northern Sun Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota. It's the second time this season she has received NSIC Player of the Wek honors in volleyball after named Offensive Player of the Week September 29
th.
A 6-0 middle hitter from Clarkson (Clarkson-Leigh HS), Hanel averaged an NSIC-best 2.25 blocks per set to go with 3.75 kills and a .400 hitting percentage in leading the Wildcats to nationally ranked wins over #22 Minnesota State Friday and #10 St. Cloud State Saturday. She started the weekend posting 12 kills and five blocks in Friday's 3-0 win over Minnesota State and then recorded her 13-block performance Saturday against the Huskies to go with 18 kills for the rare kill/block double-double in a 3-2 victory over SCSU.
For the season, Hanel leads the Wildcats with 3.14 kills and 1.08 blocks per set, ranking fourth in the league in blocks and tied for 13
th in kills while ranking third in the NSIC with a .410 hitting percentage. She is also tied for ninth in the NSIC in points per set at 3.89.
Wayne State, ranked 11
th in last week's AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, is tied for first in the NSIC with an 8-1 league mark and sits at 15-3 overall heading into Thursday's road match at Sioux Falls (10-7, 5-4 NSIC) at 6 p.m. followed by a Saturday 2 p.m. home contest vs. #17 Southwest Minnesota State (12-4, 5-4 NSIC).
