Wildcats drop 4-1 decision at St. Cloud State

            St. Cloud State scored three first-half goals and held Wayne State without a shot on goal until the final three minutes as the Huskies downed the Wildcats 4-1 in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer Friday afternoon at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minnesota.  SCSU is now 11-1-4 and 9-1-3 in NSIC play while WSC drops to 6-6-4 and 5-6-2 in conference games.
            The host Huskies opened the scoring in the 17th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
            Two goals in a span of just 45 seconds in the 26th minute gave St. Cloud State a 3-0 lead to close first half scoring.
            St. Cloud State held a 7-3 edge in shots and 4-0 in shots on goal over the Wildcats in the opening half.
            SCSU needed just 54 seconds to score to open the second half to grab a 4-0 advantage.
            Wayne State avoided the shutout with less than three minutes remaining when St. Cloud State drew a yellow card inside the box, resulting in a penalty kick that freshman Briella Thompsen converted into a goal with 2:46 remaining to make the final score 4-1.
            St. Cloud State held a 16-4 edge in shots and 8-1 in shots on goal.  Thompsen recorded Wayne State's shot on goal with her penalty kick while Alaina Sorensen, Rachel Davis and Abby Evers also had shots in the contest.
            Sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Hofstetter played the first half in goal, allowing three goals with one save.  Freshman Katelyn Miller finished the contest playing the second half and was credited with three saves while giving up one goal. 
            The Wildcats will be on the road again Sunday afternoon visiting #2 Minnesota State in a 1 p.m. contest at Mankato, Minnesota.
