Wayne State held Concordia-St. Paul to just 117 yards of total offense as the Wildcats posted a shutout victory over the Golden Bears for a second straight season after posting a 34-0 Northern Sun Conference South Division football win at Concordia-St. Paul Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats are now 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the NSIC South while the host Golden Bears drop to 1-8 and 0-4 in divisional play.
Each team went three-and-out on their first series of the game, but Wayne State got on the scoreboard midway through the first quarter on their second drive of the game as redshirt junior running back
Dawson Forgy found the end zone on a three yard run, capping a six-play, 42-yard drive that put the 'Cats in front 7-0.
After forcing another CSP punt, the Wildcats took over from the WSC 43 and drove down the field using another Forgy touchdown run, this one from 23 yards out, giving Wayne State a 13-0 advantage at the 2:51 mark of the opening quarter.
Concordia-St. Paul had a chance to get on the scoreboard early in the second quarter as the Golden Bears drove from their own 17 to the WSC 17, but a 34-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Wayne State's
Luke Lambert to thwart the scoring chance for CSP.
Later in the quarter, the Wildcats added one more score as WSC drove from their own 10-yard line and marched 90 yards on 10 plays with Forgy busting into the end zone on a two-yard plunge for his third touchdown of the game with 1:20 remaining in the half to extend the Wildcat lead to 20-0 to end the first half.
Defense dominated the third quarter as both teams combined for just three first downs (two by WSC) as the 'Cats held a 56-21 edge in total offense.

Brennan Hayes found paydirt on a two-yard run to cap an eight-play, 56 yard drive with 5:03 to play making the final score 34-0.
Wayne State ended the contest with 380 yards while holding the Golden Bears to just 117. WSC had 167 yards rushing and 213 passing while CSP was held to 43 yards on the ground and 74 passing.
Forgy led Wayne State's rushing attack with 75 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns. He becomes the first running back since Ryan Ludlow in 2014 (1,039 yards) to post a 1,000-yard rushing season and now has 1,059 yards with two games remaining.
Brennan Hayes added 49 yards on 12 carries and one TD.
Dannenbring completed 12 of 19 passes for 182 yards and one score while
Brady McGill was 4 of 6 with one interception for 31 yards. Phelps was the top receiver for the 'Cats with four catches for 76 yards and one TD.
Elijah Hudson added three receptions for 64 yards while junior tight end
Dane Petersen had three catches for 45 yards.
Wayne State's defense forced 12 punts in the game and was led by junior linebacker
Kaden Johnson with 10 tackles, one forced fumble, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries and one sack.
Clyde Hinton and
Carter Sitzman each added seven stops with Sitzman recording 1.5 sacks.
The Wildcats will be on the road again next Saturday visiting the University of Sioux Falls in an NSIC South Division game at 1 p.m.
