Dawson Forgy set a single game record with five rushing touchdowns and 181 yards, giving him a single season school record 19 rushing touchdowns, to lead the Wildcats in a 42-13 NSIC South Division football victory Saturday afternoon over the University of Sioux Falls at Bob Young Field. WSC is now 6-4 on the season and 4-1 in the NSIC South while the Cougars slip to 6-4 and 2-3 in divisional play.
The host Cougars scored on their first series of the game, marching 87 yards on 10 plays with Tate Schafer firing a 38-yard scoring pass to Isaiah Emanuel with 6:34 to play in the opening quarter giving Sioux Falls a 6-0 lead following a missed PAT kick.
The second quarter saw the Wildcat offense start to roll thanks to the rushing of Forgy along with a stingy Wildcat defense that created a turnover resulting in Wayne State's final score of the first half.
Forgy's first touchdown of the quarter came on a 35-yard scoring run with 8:21 to play in the half, giving Wayne State a 7-6 lead after
Boston Hensley's PAT kick.
The second score of the quarter was a 14-play, 50-yard drive engineered by redshirt freshman quarterback
Brady McGill as Forgy hit paydirt on a two-yard run with 1:32 left in the second quarter, putting WSC in front 14-6.
Wayne State's defense then forced a turnover on the next USF series giving the 'Cats one more scoring chance before halftime as
Kahmel Johnson intercepted Schafer at the USF 40 and returned the ball seven yards to the Cougar 33.

st and goal at the USF 6. Three plays later, Forgy found the end zone for a third time in the quarter, this time on a one-yard plunge, giving the 'Cats a 21-6 lead at intermission.
Sioux Falls took the opening series of the third quarter and scored as Schafer connected with Hank Brown Junior on an 18-yard touchdown pass, cutting the Wildcat lead to 21-13 with 9:00 remaining in the third quarter.
Forgy struck again late in the third quarter, breaking loose for a 60-yard scoring run to put the 'Cats ahead 28-13 with 1:01 to play in the third.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Forgy recorded his fifth score of the game on a seven-yard jaunt, giving WSC a 35-13 advantage.
WSC closed the scoring with 2:14 to play when sophomore
Brennan Hayes scampered 51 yards for a touchdown making the final score 42-13.
Wayne State ended the game with 378 yards of total offense, 316 on the ground. USF had 298 yards of total offense with 79 yards rushing and 219 yards passing.
Forgy ended the day with 181 yards on 28 carries and five TD's. He now has a single season record of 19 rushing touchdowns, breaking Elroy Brown's mark of 18 set in the 1999 season. His season rushing total is now 1,240 yards, which ranks third-most all-time in school history. He needs 121 yards to break the single season rushing mark of 1,360 yards set by Brown in 1999.
Hayes added 70 yards on seven carries with McGill gaining 65 yards on 11 rushes.
Throwing the ball, Dannenbring was 7 of 12 for 56 yards while McGill completed 1 of 4 passes for six yards. Bonderson had three catches for 20 yards.
The Wayne State defense was led by
Brayden Chaney with 10 tackles followed by
Kaden Johnson with eight tackles and an interception.
Wayne State closes the regular season at home next Saturday hosting #5 Augustana at 1 p.m. in the Egg Bowl Game at Cunningham Field.
