Wayne State softball took on the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats in their first game in the Washburn Tournament. Northwest defeated the 'Cats 4-2 in seven innings. After two scoreless innings, Northwest ripped off four runs against the Wildcats in the bottom of the third inning.
Sami Felt came in to pitch for the 'Cats and put the Bearcats down in order in the bottom of the fourth while Wayne State was still scoreless after four.
In the fifth inning,
Leah Chance singled out to center.
Maddie Scobee followed up with a home run out to left field to give the Wildcats their only two runs of the day. The WSC defense would put away three more Bearcats in the bottom of the fifth inning as well.
In the seventh inning, Chance would be the only batter to get on base with a single down the left field line. Scobee looked to tie up the game, seeing 10 total pitches on a full count. She would fly out to center field for the final out of the game.
Chance went 2 for 3 at the plate with one run and Scobee was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
Taylor Coleman started in the circle and ended with three strikeouts and
Samantha Felt struck out two batters as well.
The Wildcats face Fort Hays State Sunday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. to continue play in the Washburn Tournament.
