Wildcats Finish Up Washburn Tournament with a Win Defeating Ichabods 6-2

            Wayne State softball took on the host school, Washburn University Ichabods in their final game in Topeka, Kansas this afternoon. The Wildcats ended the three-day tournament with a 3-3 record.
            WU opened the score 1-0 after neither team was able to get anything going in the first two innings. Kennadi Borngrebe limited the damage in the inning by leaving three Ichabods on base.
            Four Wildcats stepped on the dish in the top of the fourth inning to take control 4-1. Leah Chance doubled down the left field line for the first hit of the inning. Taylor Coleman singled, and Chance went to third base. Coleman would successfully steal second before Borngrebe was walked to load the bases.
Lillie Timm singled up the middle, earning two RBIs after Chance and Coleman scored the first two runs. With runners on second and third, Mary Krystofiak stepped up and singled to center field and both Borngrebe and Masyn Bunnel, pinch runner, scored the third and fourth runs for WSC.
Borngrebe and the defense would only allow one hit in the bottom of the inning to hold onto the 4-1 lead after four innings.
Chance was back up to bat to start the fifth and reached on an error and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Timm earned an RBI with a single out to left, giving the 'Cats a 5-1 lead.
WU earned two walks but were unable to produce any offense not recording a hit in the inning.
Hayley Murphy homered out to left field to score the sixth run for the Wildcats. The Ichabods recorded one hit and one run scored in the inning but had two runners stranded after the third out.
Borngrebe would put the Ichabods down in order and closed out the game and get the win 6-2 over the tournament host Washburn. Timm went 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the team and Krystofiak added two RBIs on 1 for 3 hitting. Borngrebe pitched a complete game with two strikeouts and only gave up two runs on five hits.
 
            The Wildcats will be back in action March 1st and 2nd when they travel to Liberty, Missouri to take on the Cardinals of William Jewell College.
