Wayne State caps Florida trip with 4-1 win over Ohio Dominican

Leah Chance and Jordyn Klein each drove in two runs while Kennadi Borngrebe and Sami Felt limited Ohio Dominican to just four hits as the Wayne State softball team closed their Florida spring break trip Wednesday afternoon with a 4-1 win over the Panthers at the National Training Center Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.  WSC went 8-2 in Florida and is now 15-9 on the year while Ohio Dominican is 7-13.
Ohio Dominican scored their lone run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the second for a 1-0 lead.
Wayne State came up with three runs on three hits and three ODU walks in the top of the third to take a 3-1 advantage.  Mary Krystofiak walked with pinch-runner Masyn Bunnell later scoring on a bases-loaded walk to Emilee Mart for the first Wildcat run.
Borngrebe followed with an RBI single to left field bringing home Jordyn Klein (single) to put the 'Cats in front 2-1 with senior catcher Hayley Murphy delivering a sacrifice fly scoring Chance giving WSC a 3-1 lead.
The 'Cats added an insurance run in the fifth inning for a 4-1 lead as Chance singled to right field and later scored on an RBI single from Marth to close the scoring.
The Panters put the tying run at the plate with just one out in the bottom of the seventh, but senior reliever Sami Felt got a fielder's choice and ground out to end the game as the Wildcats closed their Florida trip with a 4-1 win.
Wayne State held an 8-4 edge in hits over Ohio Dominican.  Chance was 2 for 2 with a pair of singles, walk and two runs scored.  Klein went 2 for 4 with a run scored.  Maddie Scobee had a triple while Marth, Borngrebe and Krystofiak each added singles.
Borngrebe fired 6 1/3 innings in the circle to earn the win, now 8-4 on the year.  She gave up just one run on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks.  Felt came on for the final two outs and notched her fourth save of the season, tying a single season record held by Wildcat Hall of Famer Katie Goetzinger in the 2009 and 2011 seasons.
Wayne State resumes play on Saturday, March 22nd when the Wildcats open Northern Sun Conference play at Minot State in a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
