Softball Splits with Minot, Felt Breaks Single Season School Record with Fifth Save

3/22/2025 4:47:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2             Wayne State softball took on the Minot State Beavers this afternoon in an NSIC matchup. MSU took game one 1-0 with the only run scored in the fifth inning. WSC would take down the Beavers in game two 2-1 with Samantha Felt earning the save, her fifth of the season to break the WSC single season record. Katie Goetzinger held the previous record of four saves in a season, set in both 2009 and 2011.
Through the first two and a half innings, both teams would go down in order before Minot got two hits and one runner left on after the Wildcats defense got a double play. Emilee Marth would earn the first hit for the 'Cats in the top of the fourth but would be stranded after Kennadi Borngrebe flew out to center.
To start off the fifth, lead batter for Minot tripled to right and would eventually score the only run of the contest on a single to left. The Wildcats would only see one batter reach after a throwing error for the remainder of the contest but were able to prevent MSU from adding anymore runs in the 1-0 defeat.
Game two the Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Jordyn Klein singled to get on base followed up by Leah Chance hitting a double to left field. Chance and Klein would both score after Marth hit a sacrifice fly and a Minot error.
Taylor Coleman and the WSC defense would put the Beavers down in order in both the first and second innings. MSU scored their lone run on a sacrifice fly.
Felt would come into the ball game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Felt would only give up one hit and strike out one batter to earn her fifth save of the season. This broke the previous record of four, set in 2009 and 2011 by Katie Goetzinger.
WSC improves to 16-10 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Wayne State faces the University of Mary to close out their NSIC road trip Sunday afternoon.  Due to cold weather the games have been moved indoors to the Minot Dome and will now be played at 3 and 5 p.m.
