The Wayne State College women's golf team shot a final round team score of 304 Wednesday to finish play at the 54-hole NCAA Central Region Golf Championships held at Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond, Oklahoma. The 'Cats, seeded 15
th entering their first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II Central Regional, finished 16
th place overall with a new school record team score of 902 (+62), 17 strokes better than the 943 (+79) team score shot just under two weeks ago the NSIC Championships in Smithville, Missouri.
Central Missouri, ranked #21 in the country, captured the team title with a 54-hole score of 845, 12 shots better than #22 Henderson State's 857. Arkansas Tech (865, Arkansas-Fort Smith (868) and Rogers State (875) closed out the top five teams. The top four teams and top two individuals from a non-qualifying team now advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships May 13-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
Millard North sophomore
Erica Lee was the top Wildcat finisher, posting a 54-hole total of 222 to place in a tie for 41
st overall. She shot rounds of 73, 74 and 75 to set a new WSC 54-hole scoring record, bettering
Jazmine Taylor's 229 (73-77-79) at the NSIC Championships in 2023.
Freshmen
Gaia Stancikova and
Camryn Johnson both followed in a tie for 53
rd overall with a score of 226. Stancikova shot rounds of 75, 72 and 79 while Johnson produced scores of 74, 77 and 75 on the par-70 layout.
Senior
Abbigail Brodersen of Albion (Boone Central HS) was next at 230 in a tie for 65
th out of a field of 90 players posting rounds of 78, 77, 75.
Junior
Saffire Sayre closed out Wayne State's scoring at 237 with scores of 76, 78 and 83 to place in a tie for 84
th overall.
Wayne State ended the season with three tournament wins, a third-place finish at the NSIC Championships and first-ever time qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
Abbigail Brodersen is the lone senior on this year's team.
