Rachel Davis converted a penalty kick goal with just under 18 minutes remaining in the contest to give Wayne State College a 1-1 tie against Minnesota Duluth in NSIC women's soccer Friday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch. The 'Cats are now 3-0-3 and 2-0-1 in league play while the Bulldogs are 3-1-2 and 2-1-1 in the NSIC.
Minnesota Duluth scored the lone goal in the opening half at the 37:48 mark to grab a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs held an 8-5 edge in shots,4-2 in shots on goal in the first half, and 3-1 in corner kicks.
UMD maintained their one goal advantage on the Wildcats until the 72
nd minute when
Rachel Davis was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kick and blasted the ball into the upper left hand corner of the goal to even the score at 1-1.
Neither team had a shot on goal the rest of the contest resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Minnesota Duluth ended the match with a 14-13 edge in shots and 6-4 in shots on goal.
Paige Pemberton had three shots and two shots on goal for the "Cats.
Molly Riggins also had a shot on goal with Davis tallying the game-tying goal on the penalty kick.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Alexa Hofstetter played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded five saves in the contest.
The Wildcats will be at home again Sunday afternoon hosting Bemidji State in a 1 p.m. contest at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
