Box Score #9 Wayne State closed non-conference volleyball play Tuesday evening with a 25-13, 25-6, 25-21 victory over Briar Cliff at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. It was the first meeting between the two schools since September 17, 1998. WSC is now 12-2 on the season while Briar Cliff is 8-9.
The first set was close early until junior defensive specialist
Reese Johnson served seven straight points, highlighted by a pair of service aces, turning a 10-7 contest into a 17-7 Wildcat lead as Wayne State went on to win the opening set 25-13.
WSC had 16 kills in the opening set, led by
Delaney Miller and
Channatee Robles with five apiece.
The Wildcats controlled the second set, forcing nine Briar Cliff errors (five blocks), as WSC rolled to a 25-6 set victory.
Sophomore
Chloe Hanel had four kills for the 'Cats followed by
Ella Myler and Robles with three each.
The third set was much closer as the Chargers battled the 'Cats with 10 ties and a pair of lead changes before WSC prevailed late 25-21 to complete the sweep.
With the score tied at 20-20, Robles finished the match with the final five kills for Wayne State as the 'Cats finished the sweep.

Bella Hedke added five to go with one block.
Wayne State finished the match recording 47 kills and a .235 hitting percentage while holding Briar Cliff to 21 kills and 18 forced errors for a .026 hitting percentage. The 'Cats held a 66-57 edge in digs, 8-6 in blocks and 5-2 in service aces.
Robles accounted for a match-high 15 kills to lead WSC. Hanel followed with eight and Hedke had seven kills.
Hanel and
Molly Romano each had four blocks with Hedke adding three. Robles had three service aces with Johnson adding two. Romano posted her sixth double-double of the season handing out 35 assists to go with a team-high 19 digs while sophomore libero
Anna Borner chipped in 14 digs.
The 'Cats hit the road this weekend for NSIC contests at Winona State Friday evening at 6 p.m. and at #11 Concordia-St. Paul Saturday in a 5 p.m. contest.
