Minnesota Duluth won two of three baseball games over Wayne State Friday afternoon at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne. UMD opened the day winning the suspended game from late Thursday due to darkness with a 7-4 win. Wayne State followed with a thrilling 11-9 win over the Bulldogs to capture the final game of the three-game NSIC series and Minnesota Duluth closed the long day of baseball with a 12-5 non-conference win over the 'Cats. WSC is now 7-8 overall and 2-4 in the NSIC while UMD is 3-5 and 2-4 in league play.
The suspended game resumed in the top of the ninth inning Friday afternoon with the Bulldogs leading 6-4. UMD added an unearned run in the ninth to post a 7-4 win over the Wildcats.
WSC had nine hits in the contest, led by
Cam Madsen going 2 for 4 with two RBI.
Max Heard extended his hit streak to 11 games with a pair of singles while
Braden Cannon finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and run scored.
Starting pitcher Matthias Tronsdon (0-1) suffered the pitching loss.
Brooks Kneifl threw three scoreless innings of relief while
Conlin Grady worked today's ninth inning.
The first game of Friday's regularly scheduled doubleheader saw WSC build an early 8-1 lead, then have to rally after the Bulldogs tied the contest at 9-9 with a pair of solo homers in the seventh and eighth innings to finish with an 11-9 win.
WSC opened with three runs in the first and four more in the second for an early 7-1 lead and scored again in the third to take an 8-1 lead.
UMD rallied with five runs in the fifth to make the score 8-6. After WSC got another run in the sixth, UMD plated three runs in the seventh to tie the score at 9-9. Senior shortstop
Nate Cunningham belted a two-out, solo homer to right field in the seventh for a 10-9 Wildcat advantage and senior catcher
Casey Prychak added an insurance solo shot over the right field wall in the eighth for an 11-9 lead.

Braden Cannon came on in the ninth and got the Bulldogs to ground into a game-ending double play as the 'Cats held on for the 11-9 win.
WSC was outhit by UMD 12-9 but the 'Cats took advantage of five Bulldog errors and 11 walks by seven different pitchers. Cunningham was 3 for 5 with a homer and four runs scored while
Gabe Monosmith was 2 for 4 with a homer and five RBI.
Starter
Braden Sweet worked 4 2/3 innings, charged with six runs on seven hits. Reliever
Conlin Grady got the win, now 2-0, while Cannon notched his fourth save of the young season.
The second game saw the visiting Bulldogs erupt for nine runs in the second inning and closed with a 12-5 non-conference win to cap the four-game series.
After UMD jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the second, WSC came back with four runs in the bottom of the frame as
Brayden Chaney had a two-run single to go with an RBI single from
Korey Cozad.
Both teams scored single runs in the fourth innings to close out the scoring. Wayne State's run came when
Easton Mains tripled and scored on an RBI ground out by Cozad.
WSC had seven hits in the game. Mains had a triple for the lone extra base hit while Madsen had a pair of singles.
