Leah Chance delivered a walk-off RBI single that scored
Jordyn Rochholz with the game-winning run to give Wayne State a 3-2 win over Upper Iowa Saturday morning at the Midwest College Softball Classic in Shawnee, Kansas. It was the second straight walk-off win for the Wildcats, now 12-1 on the season, while the Peacocks drop to 4-18.
Upper Iowa opened the scoring with one run in the second to take the early lead, but WSC got two runs in the bottom of the third to grab a 2-1 advantage. Rochholz started the inning with a single followed by a double from
Jordyn Klein to put runners at second and third. Chance and
Emilee Marth each followed with RBI groundouts to score a pair of runs giving Wayne State the lead.
The Peacocks tied the score with one run in the top of the fourth at 2-2 and the score stayed that way until the Wildcats worked more late inning magic in the seventh.
Rochholz singled with one out. After a strike out, Rochholz stole second base and crossed home plate for the winning run on Chance's game-winner to left field giving the 'Cats a 3-2 victory.
Wayne State held a 9-4 edge in hits over Upper Iowa. Chance was 2 for 4 with two RBI while Rochholz finished 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and two runs scored. Klein and Reagan Dreilbelbis each doubled for WSC in the win.
Jadeyn Stahr started the game in the circle and worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Reliever
Taylor Coleman pitched the remaining 1 2/3 innings and got the win, now 2-1 on the season. She did not allow a hit while striking out four batters.
Wayne State was scheduled to face #9 Missouri Southern Saturday afternoon in their final game at the Midwest College Classic.
