Wayne State women's basketball was handed a loss on the road at Concordia-St. Paul this afternoon, 81-60 in an NSIC matchup. The 'Cats move to 10-14 overall and 5-13 in the league. The Golden Bears improve to 17-6 with a 13-5 conference record.
The Wildcats kept it close after one quarter, trailing only by three points led by senior Meg Reitz with seven points.
Tenleigh Smith and
Rachel Dahlen added four points apiece as well in the opening quarter.
CSP slowly extended their lead in the second, outscoring WSC 24-10 in the period. The 'Cats struggle to find the bottom of the net in the quarter going 2-11 from the floor.
Wayne State looked to get back into the game, scoring 20 points in the third quarter and led my Dahlen with eight points, going 3-4 from the floor and converting a pair of free throws. WSC trailed 67-50 going into the final 10 minutes.
Concordia-St. Paul was able to handle any attempts to comeback by the Wildcats and handed the 'Cats a 81-60 loss.
Dahlen led the 'Cats in scoring with 14 points followed by Reitz with 11 and
Kylah vanDonkersgoed with 10.
Kelsey Willems dished out four assists and had one steal in the contest.
Wayne State will be back in action in Wayne, Neb. Thursday evening hosting the Huskies from St. Cloud State. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
